The 1850-O is scarcer than either the 1851-O or the 1852-O quarter eagles. It is a tough coin to locate in the lower Uncirculated grades and it is extremely rare in MS63 and above with no more than two or three known in the this range.
This frosty example shows a typical soft strike but it is accurately graded. Both sides show rich reddish colors with green-gold undertones.
Three PCGS MS62 examples have sold at auction during this decade, with a high price realized of $17,038 for a coin that was auctioned in 2022. Another brought $11,100 in late 2023.
