A. BECHTLER GOLD DOLLAR, PCGS/CAC AU55
K-24, R-2. 27 Grains, 21 Carats.
This is an important issue as it represents a by-product from the North Carolina Gold Rush that began in the late 1820s and lasted until the late 1840s, early 1850s. If you collect Charlotte gold dollars, this type is an essential addition to your set.
I grade this coin a solid AU58 with strong claims to an MS61. It is housed in an older blue label holder with no barcode on the front. As with many examples of this type, there is some waviness in the planchet—as made. I feel this rustic touch adds to the overall appeal of this hand-made issue. The deep yellow-gold color is 100% original and there are no detracting marks seen on the lustrous surfaces.
There has not been a CAC approved PCGS AU55 K-24 Bechtler dollar sold at auction since 2019.
CAC has approved 17 in AU55 with 46 finer.
