POPULAR 1857-S QUARTER EAGLE: AN NGC AU58 WITH CAC APPROVAL

Due to its association with the S.S. Central America shipwreck, the 1857-S quarter eagle is a popular issue. It is common in circulated grades while remaining very rare above MS62.

This is a really choice slider which shows no real wear and has not been enhanced or adulterated. A fairly large mint-made copper spot on the reverse at the first S in STATES serves as instant identification.

This exact coin is the only AU58 from either service with a CAC sticker to sell at auction. A non-CAC NGC AU58 in an older holder brought $2,880 in early 2023.
