HM-5. Low R-5. A rare variety. There are two bold cracks seen on the obverse.
I grade this coin AU58 but it is not giggle-inducing in a 61 holder. Nice original surfaces are frosty and show light orange-gold color.
There are likely not more than two or three Uncirculated 1836 HM-5 half eagles known.
From the Seattle Collection and ex Heritage 3/2011: 2252 where it brought $4,313.
