VERY CHOICE CACG 1858-D HALF EAGLE GRADED AU55.
I haven’t handled more than a small handful of D-mint half eagles graded by CACG, and I’m impressed that they graded this coin AU55 as I believe it is a virtual lock to grade AU58 at one or both of the other grading services.
The coin itself is very heavy on originality and, in my experience, this issue is not very often seen with choice, original surfaces and unmolested color. In fact, this is likely the single nicest AU 1858-D half eagle that I have offered since the killer PCGS/CAC AU58+ I sold to a collector as part of my Auraria Concierge Sale (tm) a few years ago.
Stack’s Bowers 2024 ANA: 5713 was graded AU55 by PCGS/CAC, and it brought $7,200. I disliked the coin as I felt it was lightened at one time.
If you need a single Dahlonega half eagle as a type coin or to place in a seven-Mint set of Liberty Head half eagles, this coin will be absolutely perfect for you.
CAC has approved four in this grade with six finer.
