I purchased this coin in an NGC AU58PL holder. It was accurately graded but improperly designated—in my opinion—as it is reflective but not enough so to be certified as a Prooflike example.
This would make a perfect sub-$5k type coin as it is really choice and really original.
Only 3,000 were made.
No PCGS/CAC AU58 has ever sold at auction, and the last two APRs for non-CAC PCGS AU58 1879 Three Dollar gold pieces are for $3,066 in March 2022, and $3,100 in September 2021.
CAC has approved 8 in this grade with 58 finer.
