RARE PCGS MS60 1859 DOUBLE EAGLE

With fewer than 10 known in Uncirculated, the 1859 is the single rarest Philadelphia Type One $20 in higher grades.

This is a much nicer coin for the grade than you were expecting. It is uncleaned and has not been brightened, nor is it riddled with significant abrasions.  There are a few shallow pecks on the lower portion of Liberty’s cheek and a mint-made dark spot on the reverse beneath the eagle’s left (facing) wing.

Heritage 5/2022: 4032, a PCGS MS60 which was a bit nicer than this, sold for $36,000, while Heritage 5/2023: 3281 (this exact coin; see below) realized $30,000. This date has APRs for MS60 coins over $20,000 as far back as 2001!

Here is a rare opportunity to acquire the key date Philly Type One $20 at a very reasonable level.
