IMPORTANT CONDITION CENSUS 1850-O GOLD DOLLAR GRADED MS63 BY PCGS/CAC.
While not as popular and priced at a discount compared to the 1855-O, the 1850-O is far and away the rarest gold dollar from New Orleans. There are a few dozen known in Uncirculated with around 90+% of thee in the lower MS grades. Properly graded MS63 examples are rare and I am aware of just two finer; both in PCGS MS64 and both impounded in long-term specialized sets.
This newly-graded coin is fresh to the market. It is undipped and shows nice medium yellow-gold color. The strike is very sharp and there are just a few minor scuffs seen in the fields.
In the Stack’s Bowers 2024 ANA sale, a PCGS/CAC MS63+ brought a strong $18,000. This example is virtually as nice at a considerable discount.
An important coin for the advanced gold dollar specialist.
CAC has approved this one coin in MS63 with just one finer, an MS63+.
