PCGS MS62 1881-S $20.00

The 1881-S is slightly more available than the 1879-S and 1880-S double eagles in grades through MS62. It is also more often seen in MS63 and higher grades, although anything approaching the Gem level is rare. Just four have been graded MS64 by PCGS with none finer.

This satiny example shows rose and orange-gold color with the expected marks seen in the obverse fields.

Three PCGS MS62 1882-S double eagles were sold at auction in 2023, with prices at $7,200 (3/2023 and 8/2023), and $7,800 in January.
