This elusive Civil War issue has an original mintage of 5,750 business strikes.
This is a choice, virtually new, example with rich natural golden colors on either side. The surfaces are clean for the issue with only a few tiny marks seen in the fields. The reverse is slightly rotated—as made—which is atypical for this issue.
There are just two APRs for the 1862 $3 in PCGS/CAC AU58, and they are for the same coin. This sold for $16,600 as Stack’s Bowers 2022 ANA: 93115, and later as Legend 2/2023: 384 for $12,338.
CAC has approved 12 in AU58 with another 12 finer.
