POPULAR PCGS EF45 1839-D QUARTER EAGLE
The 1839-D is a unique issue for this mint and it is the sole one-year type and first-year-of-issue Dahlonega quarter eagle. This gives it what I call “multiple levels of demand. Coins with this strong demand—which also include the 1838-D and 1839-D half eagles as well as the 1838-C half eagle tend to seem pricey compared to rarer but less in-demand issues but let’s face it, most collectors would rather own an 1839-D quarter eagle than a far rarer issue such as an 1840-D or 1841-D quarter eagle.
This piece is nice for the grade with no severe marks and decent overall color.
The only recent APR for this date/grade is Stacks Bowers 11/2024: 5391 which was CAC approved but which was liney, washed-out and not up to typical CAC standards in my opinion.
A desirable and challenging issue which is nearly never seen at this price point.
