The 1870 is one of four tough P min Type Two double eagles from Philadelphia struck from 1868 through 1871. All four of these are very rare in Uncirculated and are great value at current levels in the higher AU grades.
This choice, wholesome example lacks the deep, detracting marks common to this issue.
Four non-CAC PCGS AU55 1870 double eagles have sold at auction since 2020 (none since August of that year, however) with prices ranging from a low pf $3,600 to a high of $4,080. In my opinion, the market for these is up at least 10-15% since then.
CAC has approved 11 in this grade with 34 finer.
