GEM SLIDER 1872 DOUBLE EAGLE WITH CAC APPROVAL

The 1872 is less scarce than the 18668-1871 Philadelphia double eagle date run and while it is not hard to locate in AU58, most which are in those holders are not choice.

This frosty slider shows no real wear but there is just enough bag friction on the obverse to keep this from an otherwise-deserved MS61 grade. The color is a pleasing rich natural orange-gold with some darker hues on the highlights from storage in a European vault.

No CAC approved PCGS AU58 1872 double eagle has sold at auction in the past few years. A non-CAC PCGS AU58 sold for $3,290 as Stacks Bowers 3/16: 14354.

An excellent value at current levels.

CAC has approved 26 in this grade with 13 finer.
