CHOICE UNCIRCULATED 1807 BUST RIGHT HALF EAGLE

BD-1, High R-4. Small Reverse Stars.

As a date, the 1807 is one of the more available Bust Right half eagles. It is common in circulated grades and seen from time to time but properly graded MS62 coins are scarce and this date is rare and underrated in MS63 and finer.

I bought this coin at ANA from a "break out" dealer who cracked it from an older PCGS MS62 (see pedigree below) in an attempt to upgrade it. I see no way this coin could ever graded MS63 but it is certainly a nice MS62. The strike is sharp and the planchet lacks any significant adjustment marks; some grade-limiting "chatter" appears in the right obverse fields. This piece is original and undipped with good luster and nice overall eye appeal.

This coin is the only PCGS MS62 1807 BR half eagle to sell at auction since April 2009. A nice PCGS MS62+ with CAC approval sold for $24,675 as Heritage 1/14: 5418.

Ex Heritage 6/16: 4796 where it realized $17,625.
