BEAUTIFUL PCGS/CAC MS63 1838 QUARTER EAGLE

Old Green Label Holder

The 1838 quarter eagle is common in circulated grades and is seen from time to time in the lower Uncirculated grades. It is quite rare in properly graded MS63, very rare in MS64 and extremely rare in Gem. The finest known is the fabulous PCGS MS67 Pogue II: 2065 coin which I bought for $235,000 in 2015.

This coin has been off the market for well over a decade and, in my opinion, it would grade MS63+ if resubmitted to PCGS. It is undipped and unadulterated with shimmering green-gold color and exceptional mint luster. There are a few minor scuffs in the fields which limit the grade but the eye appeal is off the charts.

No MS63 1838 quarter eagle has sold since August 2002 and no MS64 has sold at auction sine February 2006.

This piece would fit equally as well into a type set or an exceptional date run of Classic Head quarter eagles.

CAC has approved five in this grade with none finer.
