Coin Description

The 1892-CC is the second to last Carson City double eagle. It is plentiful in AU grades but the greatly majority of those coins have either been cleaned or they show deep, detracting abrasions. Probably fewer than 10% of the extent 1892-CC double eagles are DWN quality.

This exceptionally clean example shows pleasing rich natural orange-gold color which is found in similar proportions on both sides. The surfaces are nearly free of marks and the amount of wear seen is much less than one might expect for the assigned grade.

Only two PCGS AU53′s have sold at auction since 8/11 and neither were CAC approved; these realized $4,230 and $4,465, respectively.

This is the best available quality for the date at under $5,000 and this piece is perfect for the collector seeking a single choice Carson City double eagle for a gold type set.

CAC has approved three in this grade with 27 finer.
