POPULAR CIVIL WAR ISSUE 1865 DOUBLE EAGLE IN PCGS/CAC AU58

The 1865 is the second most available Civil War double eagle from Philadelphia after the readily available 1861. It is seen with some frequency in AU55 to AU58 grades but not often with deep, natural color and acceptable surfaces.

This lustrous slider shows nice deep russet overtone over underlying flashes of green and orange. It has little-if any--actual wear but the relief details show just a bit too much friction to grade this Uncirculated.

Goldberg 9/15: 1507, graded PCGS/CAC AU58 but not choice in my opinion, realized a reasonable $4,994.

This attractive 1865 double eagle would make a welcome addition to a sophisticated Type One or Civil War set.

CAC has approved 14 in this grade with 56 finer.
