Normal Date variety.

The 1852 is among the most available non-shipwreck dates in the Type Two series. It can be located in any circulated grade with little difficulty and is even available in the lowest Uncirculated grades. It becomes very scarce in properly graded MS62, rare in MS63 and extremely rare in MS64 and higher. An MS62 with original color and choice surfaces is very rare.

This fresh-to-the-market example is one of the nicest 1852 double eagles I have offered. It is very high end with natural rose color atop vibrant, frosty surfaces and the strike is razor sharp. A few grade-limiting abrasions can be seen in the obverse fields while the reverse is choice. This piece has never been dipped or processed and lacks the funky added color seen on many higher grade 1852 double eagles.

Two non-CAC examples have sold so far in 2016 and they realized $11,751 and $12,925, respectively.

If available, a nice PCGS MS63 would cost well in excess of $20,000 and that would, in my opinion, be an overspend for this date.

CAC has approved five in tis grade with three finer.
