RARE PCGS/CAC AU55 1883-CC EAGLE

The 1883-CC eagle is a conditionally rare issue which becomes legitimately scarce in properly graded AU55, rare in AU58 and extremely rare (and expensive) in Uncirculated. Most of the coins I have seen in AU55 holder are not at all choice, due to mint-caused strike issues or rough handling.

This lightly worn example is uncommonly well-detailed for the issues with sharp hair and feathers as well as full radial lines in the stars. The surfaces are extremely clean and are overlaid with very attractive rich natural green-gold color which changes to reddish-gold at the obverse border and the lower reverse. The eye appeal is uncommonly good for the date and grade.

No PCGS AU55 with CAC approval has sold at auction. Two non-CAC PCGS AU55 1883-CC eagles have sold in 2016 and they realized $6,169 and $6,463, respectively.

This coin is nice enough to fit into nearly any set of CC eagles and it makes sense from a value standpoint as a PCGS AU58 with CAC approval--if available--would likely sell for close to $20,000.

CAC hs approved 4 in this grade with 4 finer.
