The 1852-D is one of the most available half eagles from this mint. It is relatively common in nearly all circulated grades but finding examples with original color and surfaces is never easy.
This Choice EF example shows the detail of a borderline AU but it does have a number of small handling marks on the obverse and reverse. These are nicely masked by the natural coloration and some dirt can be seen in the recesses. As is common for the date, the strike is weak on the border and the rims appear bevelled.
Here is a perfcect, affordable Dahlonega half eagle for the beginning collector of branch mint gold.
CAC has approved three in this grade with eight finer.
