Variety 28-U. late die state with multiple cracks on the reverse and the lower half of the mintmark weakly impressed.
The 1850-D is one of the scarcer Dahlonega half eagles from this decade. It is generally seen in VF and EF grades.
This coin is original and pleasing with the sharpness and body of an EF40. It appears to have been net graded by NGC due to an old scrape below the 85 in the date and a light, old scratch in the right obverse field. Both sides show attractive medium to deep caramel color and have nice overall eye appeal.
This date sells for just a small premium over the 1852-D, 1853-D and 1854-D in this grade yet it is considerably more difficult to find.
