A total of 82 Proofs were struck; around half of these survive with most in the PR63 to PR64 range. DCAM examples are very rare and the likely finest known, a PCGS PR66DCAM, sold for $41,125 as Lot 323 in the Legend-Morphy February 2014 auction.

This is an outstanding coin for the grade with the naked-eye appearance of a Gem. There is strong contrast noted between the devices and the fields while the surfaces are free of significant hairlines. A small mint-made lintmark between the tip of the neck and star one is not easy to see with the naked eye while the reverse is of full Gem quality.

No PCGS PR64DCAM example of this date has sold at auction since May 2006. A PCGS PR64 CAM with CAC approval brought $10,638 in March 2011.

Proof gold coinage generally requires a hefty budget but PR64 quarter eagles from the 1880′s and 1890′s are still relatively affordable and they represent excellent value in my opinion.

CAC has approved one in this grade with five finer.
