The 1882-CC is the second scarcest Carson City double eagle from this decade, trailing only the 1885-CC. It is not often seen above AU53 to AU55 and properly graded AU58 examples are scarce. In Uncirculated, the 1882-CC is rare and expensive.

This lustrous slider is lightly worn on the high spots of the obverse while the reverse grades MS60 to MS61 on its own accord. Both sides are lightly abraded with medium rose and yellow-gold color. Some scattered marks can be seen in the fields with the most noticeable at the bridge of the nose.

Two AU58 examples have been sold at auction so far this year. A PCGS/CAC sold for $9,988 as Heritage 1/14: 7177 while an NGC AU58 without CAC approval sold for $7,931 as Heritage 1/14: 7176.

If available, an MS60 to MS61 would sell for close to double the price of this nice AU58 and it would likely not be significantly finer in terms of quality and eye appeal.
