The 1851, like most of the Philadelphia No Motto half eagles of this era, is common in circulated grades but hard to find in the lower Uncirculated range and very rare in MS63 and above. The best I have seen is the Pittman I: 995 coin which was later graded MS65 by NGC.

This fresh, frosty example is strictly “new” with no rub or wear. It exhibits nice light orange-gold color and there are just a few small ticks in the fields that limit the grade. The eye appeal is excellent.

The last auction record for an 1851 half eagle graded MS61 by PCGS is this exact coin which sold for $2,115 as Heritage’s 6/13: 2115.

A nice No Motto type coin and still undervalued in my opinion
