THE PRETTIEST 1848-C HALF EAGLE I’VE EVER SEEN, EX LITTLEJOHN COLLECTION

While a good number of 1848-C half eagles exist in third-party About Uncirculated holders, I believe that this specific coin is the prettiest of them all. It is made extra choice as the result of its superb deep natural color and, as suck, it is a very rare coin.

As a date, the 1848-C half eagle is only moderately scarce but in higher grades it is underrated and it is seldom seen with good eye appeal. The present example shows superb deep sunset orange and reddish splashes which are a bit more intense on the obverse than on the reverse. The strike is sharp and the surfaces are choice. I grade this coin a “lock” AU58 and I think it would measure up to any 1848-C half eagle in an AU55 holder.

The only auction record for a PCGS AU55 1848-C half eagle with CAC approval is ex Heritage 10/11: 4906 which was not very choice; it brought $5,463.

If you go strictly by price guides, this coin is expensive but if you appreciate true quality, you know that this coin is irreplaceable!

Ex Boosi and Littlejohn collections.

CAC has approved four in this grade with six finer.
