RARE GEM PROOF 1895 QUARTER EAGLE

A total of 119 Proof quarter eagles were issued in 1895 and the likely survival rate is in the area of 50%. Fewer Gem and Superb Gem pieces exist than one would expect and this date is essentially unavailable in grades finer than PR66 to PR67.

This Superb Gem would make a perfect type coin for the collector seeking a single high grade Proof of this design. It shows deep black and white contrast and unlike many Gems of this date it has real character as a result of its rich natural yellow-gold color. A tiny obverse mark near the border at the inside of star seven serves as identification.

A different PR66DCAM example with CAC approval realized $29,900 as Heritage 2/12: 4667 while a PCGS/CAC PR66+DCAM brought $32,313 as Goldberg 6/15: 1712.

An exceptional coin in every respect.

CAC has approved 6 in this grade/designation with 4 finer.
