SCARCE MINTMARK BELOW BOW 1875-CC DIME

Varieties of 1875-CC dime exist with the mintmark placed above and below the bow. The latter is at least two to three times more difficult to locate and it is an issue which becomes very scarce in any grade approaching the Gem level.

When available, this variety tends to come dipped white and the present example shows exceptional deep silvery-rose toning indicative of long-term storage in a coin envelope. It is well struck and lustrous with the only describable issue being an inert dark spot on the first S in STATES.

No PCGS MS64+ example of this variety has sold at auction. A PCGS/CAC MS64 in an old green label holder brought $2,585 as Lot 177 in Legend's 12/16 sale.

A really nice coin and seemingly good value in this grade as a PCGS/CAC MS65 would cost over $5,000 if you could even find one.

CAC has approved 6 in MS64 (including this one in 64+) with 6 finer.
