SUPERBLY TONED PCGS/CAC EF45 1844-D QUARTER EAGLE

Variety 5-J.

The 1844-D is a relatively common date amongst the quarter eagles from this mint but it is often seen with a weak central strike and almost never with rich natural color.

This fresh-to-the-market coin has very deep russet and reddish-gold color which suggests storage in either a leather pouch or an old wood cabinet. The strike is sharp for the issue with nice detail at the centers and the surfaces are choice. The aforementioned color makes this an impressive and high end piece for the date and grade.

A not-as-choice CAC approved PCGS EF45 1844-D quarter eagle sold for $2,585 as Heritage 2014 ANA: 3755. Only two PCGS EF45's have sold at auction since 2010.

If you collect Dahlonega quarter eagles and you like coins with neat color, this piece is for you.

CAC has approved 7 in this grade with 19 finer.
