PCGS/CAC VF35 1840-C QUARTER EAGLE

The 1840-C is numismatically significant as the first Liberty Head quarter eagle produced at the Charlotte mint. It is available in collector grades but not often with choice surfaces and natural color.

This choice example is very close to being a full EF40 and it is more a function of strike than wear which keeps it out of a 40 holder. Both sides show attractive deep natural green-gold color which becomes darker towards the borders.

The only PCGS VF35 1840-C quarter eagle to sell at auction since 2005 realized $1,950 as DLRC 4/16: 4303; it was not approved by CAC.

Here is an appealing and affordable early date quarter eagle from the popular Charlotte mint.

CAC has approved 2 in this grade with 21 higher.
