SCARCE BORDERLINE GEM 1871 GOLD DOLLAR WITH CAC APPROVAL

The 1871 is comparable in rarity to the 1870 gold dollar but it is not as scarce as the 1872. The 1871 is not often seen above MS64 and it is rare in Gem, Only 3,900 business strikes were made.

This semi-prooflike borderline Gem shows nice natural yellow-gold color. There are a few grade-limiting marks on Liberty's chin but this is a really solid coin for the grade with the appearance of a Gem.

A non-CAC PCGS MS64 1871 gold dollar recently sold for $2,585 as Heritage 7/16: 4373. No CAC approved MS64 has sold at auction.

As with so many gold dollars of this era, this piece represents excellent value at current levels.

CAC has approved 4 in this grade with 8 finer.
