PCGS/CAC EF45 1847-D QUARTER EAGLE

Variety 9-N.

The 1847-D is one of the more available quarter eagles from Dahlonega and since it tends to be relatively well-made it is popular as a type coin. For some reason, there are more specific coins of this issue with nice color than nearly any other D mint quarter eagle but these coins are getting harder and harder to locate.

This choice green-gold example is characterized by the presence of considerable caked-in dirt within the recesses on the reverse. It shows more luster than one might expect on a coin graded EF45 and it is well-defined with choice surfaces and a nice overall appearance.

The only PCGS EF451847-D quarter eagle to sell at auction since 2010 realized $2,585 as Heritage 9/16: 4471 and it was not CAC approved.

A perfect type coin and good value at under $3,000.

CAC has approved 6 in this grade with 22 finer.
