RARE UNCIRCULATED 1843 QUARTER EAGLE

This misunderstood date has a mintage of just over 100,000 but it is scarce in all grades and rare in Uncirculated. There are probably no more than 12-15 known in Uncirculated with most in the MS60 to MS62 range. The best I am aware of are two graded MS64 by PCGS.

This coin has attractive deep, even russet color on both sides. It is well struck and hasn't been brightened or otherwise messed with. There is a grade-limiting scrape behind the head in the right obverse field but the overall eye appeal is far above-average for the date and grade.

No PCGS MS61 1843 quarter eagle has sold at auction since early 2000 and no NGC graded example has sold since 2008.

While not an expensive coin, this nice 1843 quarter eagle is legitimately scarce.

CAC has approved 2 in this grade with 3 finer.
