AFFORDABLE COLLECTOR QUALITY 1864 DOUBLE EAGLE WITH CAC APPROVAL

While not as scarce as the 1862 or 1863 double eagles, the 1864 is a tough issue in its own right and one whose popularity has increased considerably in recent years.

I believe this coin grades EF40 and I graded it a number of times but I've given up and left it as is. It has a natural appearance with good detail and pleasing surfaces.

No PCGS VF35 1864 double eagle has ever sold at auction. An NGC EF40 brought $4,230 as Heritage 2015 ANA: 6385 and it does not appear from the image to be any choicer than the presently-offered specimen.

An uncommonly affordable and cosmetically appealing example of this important Civil War double eagle.

CAC has approved this single coin in VF35 with another 35 higher.
