GEM SLIDER PCGS/CAC AU58 1851 DOUBLE EAGLE

This early date Type One issue is common in the lower AU grades but properly graded AU58 pieces are not easy to locate.

This frosty light orange-gold example has the naked-eye appearance of an MS61 to MS62 and there is just a hint of rub seen on the obverse. The strike is sharp and the surfaces are clean safe for a few small ticks on the face and the neck of Liberty.

The last PCGS AU58 1851 double eagle with CAC approval to sell at auction realized $4,583 as Legend 2/16: 423. An NGC AU58 with CAC approval brought $4,230 as Heritage 2/16: 4350.

A nice type coin for the collector seeking a premium quality Type One Liberty Head double eagle.

CAC has approved 29 in this grade with 16 finer.
