If you can’t spring for the $55,000 version of this date that I also have for sale, perhaps this nice mid-grade AU will work better for you. It has a good deal of natural mint luster with pleasing green-gold color and choice surfaces. There is a smallmint-made planchet defect that is located at the ear lobe and it is both shallow and very hard to see. Without this, I am reasonably certain that PCGS would have graded this coin AU55 and it is among the better examples of this scarce, lower mintage New Orleans eagle that I have offered in the last year or two.

There were a total of 11,100 struck. There are around 125-150 known with most in the VF35 to EF45 range. Thhe 1860-O eagle is a scarce coin in AU53 to AU55 and it is rare in AU58 and above.

Ex Heritage 7/12: 4993 where it sold for $6,900. The CAC population is one in this grade with four finer.
