The 1851-O is the second most available No Motto New Orleans eagle after the 1847-O. It is common in grades up to AU55 but it is very scarce in properly graded AU58 and quite rare in Uncirculated.

This gem slider has the appearance and eye appeal of an MS61 to MS62. It is fully original with dark, appealing green-gold colors on the obverse and reverse. The strike is excellent and there is much mint frost seen on both sides; the surfaces are mostly free of marks although a few small scuffs are noted on the truncation.

Heritage 4/12: 6707, graded AU58 by PCGS and approved by CAC, was very similar in appearance and quality to this coin and it sold for $4,888. Two other PCGS AU58 examples brought $4,888 and $4,830, respectively, in 2011 and 2012.

To acquire a nicer 1851-O, you’d have to shell out over $20,000 for an MS62–if you could even find one.

CAC has approved 10 in this grade (!) with five finer.
