The 1847-O is the most common No Motto New Orleans eagle. It is regularly available in circulated grades but, as with all issues from this mint and of this type, it is conditionally rare in higher grades. My best estimate is that there are fewer than 15-20 known in all Uncirculated grades and properly graded MS62′s are quite rare.

This frosty, orange-gold toned example has wonderfully natural surfaces which show a mellow character not often seen on this date. The obverse has some handling marks in the fields which limit the grade while the reverse is cleaner and choice. The eye appeal is exceptional and this fresh-to-the-market piece is the nicest 1847-O eagle that I have seen in some time.

The only MS62 1847-O eagle to ever sell at auction was a PCGS coin offered as Heritage 1/13: 7312 which I purchased for $19,975. A PCGS MS63 sold for $28,200 as Heritage 2014 ANA: 5265. Neither of these were approved by CAC.

This coin is dually significant as a potential New Orleans No Motto type coin or as an impressive date representative for a high quality set of No Motto eagles.

This is currently the only Uncirculated 1847-O eagle to have been approved by CAC.
