Repunched 84 in date; variety not designated by PCGS.

The 1845-O eagle is relatively easy to locate in EF and the lower AU grades. It is scarce in properly graded AU55, rare in AU58 and very rare in Uncirculated.

This lustrous example show nice medium green-gold color which is the natural hue for this date. The strike is sharp and even and there are just a few small scattered abrasions visible on the surfaces. The eye appeal is well above-average for both the date and the grade.

The last PCGS/CAC example of this date to sell at auction was Heritage 4/12: 6702 which brought $6,613. Before this, another PCGS AU55 (non-CAC) sold for $5,750 in Stack’s 8/10 auction. These are the only two auction records for PCGS AU55 1845-O eagles since May 2004.

As with most of the New Orleans eagles from this era, the 1845-O is extremely hard to find in this grade with choice, original surfaces.

CAC has approved two in AU55 with five finer.
