Col. Green/Newman pedigree.

The 1853-O is the most common gold dollar from this mint and this fact, combined with its usually excellent striking quality, makes it popular for type purposes. In MS63, this date is moderately scarce but it becomes very scarce in properly graded MS64 and Gems are rare.

This green-gold example is frosty and original with nice green-gold color and the naked-eye appearance of a Gem. A higher grade is precluded by some lights ticks in the left obverse field but this piece is clearly choice for the grade.

A PCGS MS64 would sell for at least $2,500 and more if it were CAC approved.

CAC has approved nine in MS63 or MS63+ and nine finer.

Ex Heritage 11/14: 3177 where it sold for $1,645 as an NGC MS63+CAC, earlier in the Eric Newman collection and purchased from Col. Green for $15.00
