REMARKABLE 1810 HALF EAGLE GRADED MS63 BY PCGS/CAC

BD-4, R-2. Large Date, Large 5.

The 1810 Large Date, Large 5 is among the more available issues of this design type but it is scarce in properly graded MS63and rare in any grade higher.

This particular coin has a wonderful backstory. Along with another 1810 Large Date Large 5 half eagle (graded MS64 by PCGS/CAC and already sold by me) it walked into a coin store and the story was told that these two pieces (at the time unencapsulated) had been together in one family for many generations.

The term "original" is overused when it comes to coins but this piece is as natural in appearance as early comes with deep, unmolested color which is especially deep at the left central reverse. The surfaces show just a few light marks and the overall eye appeal is spectacular. You could search for years and not find a more aesthetically appealing Capped Bust Left half eagle.

The last PCGS/CAC MS63 example of this date/variety realized $25,850 as Heritage 4/17: 4269.

If you have been looking for a great example of this type for your set or if you just appreciate really pretty early gold, this piece is worthy of serious consideration.

CAC has approved 10 in this grade with 6 finer.
