The 1841-C is the second rarest quarter eagle from this mint after the 1842-C. It is most often seen in VF-EF grades and nice AU examples, especially with natural color and surfaces, are very seldom seen.

This is one of the few colorfully toned 1841-C quarter eagles which I have seen and it shows rich, dramatic reddish-gold hues on the obverse which change to purple at 2:00; the reverse is a bit more subdued but shows some color in the fields. There is luster on both sides, the strike is bold for the issue and the fields lack the pronounced marks so common to this issue.

The last PCGS AU53 to sell at auction is this exact coin (see below) and it is the only CAC approved 1841-C in this grade.

If you collect Charlotte quarter eagles by date, the chances are good that you won’t find a significantly more attractive 1841-C than this.

This is the only 1841-C quarter eagle in this grade to have been approved by CAC; four finer have been recorded.

Ex Great Collections 3/13: 105024, where it realized $4,752.
