Old Green Holder.

Variety 1, 1839/8-C overdate.

The 1839-C quarter eagle is always in demand as one of just two Classic Head issues from this mint. It is more available than its counterpart the 1838-C but it is currently in strong demand in all grades.

This piece shows extensive but even wear below natural russet and green-gold color. The obverse shows the sharpness of a VF25 to VF30 coin while the reverse is a bit weaker due mostly to strike. The overall eye appeal is very acceptable for the date and grade.

No PCGS VF20 1839-C quarter eagle has sold at auction. A PCGS VF25 in an old green holder sold for $3,069 as Heritage 11/13: 4544 while another OGH coin, graded VF30 by PCGS, realized $3,878 as Heritage 1/15: 6861.

It is very hard to find a damage-free example at less than $4,000.
