Variety 16. R-2.

1837 quarter eagles are common in all circulated grades but they are scarce in all Uncirculated grades, especially with natural color and choice surfaces.

This fresh to the market example shows rich green-gold hues with contrasting reddish splashes on the highlights; likely the result of storage in an old coin cabinet or album. As usual, the strike is not full at the centers but this should not be mistaken for wear as the cheek is free of wear and the wing tips are complete and unworn. Some scattered ticks limit the grade but this is a really solid coin for the date with excellent eye appeal.

No PCGS MS61 1837 quarter eagle has sold at auction since Heritage 10/06: 2475 which brought $5,463.

A date set of P mint Classic Head quarter eagles in Uncirculated grades makes a great challenge for the collector and this coin would make a great starting point!
