Variety 1. Small Head.

This is a crisp, fresh example with semi-prooflike fields accentuated by splashes of rich reddish-gold in the obverse fields; the rest of the coin is a nice even green-gold shade. The strike is above-average for the date and the surfaces are pleasing for the grade with a few scattered marks in the obverse fields consistent with the grade. There is a small, shallow mark between stars one and two which is mint-made and which is often seen on 1834 Classic Head quarter eagles.

Of the last 25 MS61 examples sold at auction, dating back to 2008, only one (!) has been slabbed by PCGS and it is ex Heritage 8/11: 5352 at $3,738.

If you have been looking for an above-average yet affordable Classic Head quarter eagle for your gold type set, here is a chance to step up and acquire a premium example.

CAC has approved six in the grade with 32 finer.
