The 1908-S is numismatically significant as the first San Francisco eagle with the recently adopted Indian Head design. Only 59,850 and it has the third lowest mintage figure of any of the SF Indian Head eagles of this type. It is a scarce coin in the higher Uncirculated and it is rare and expensive in Uncirculated.

This lustrous slider is more cosmetically appealing than most 1908-S eagles that I have seen in MS60, MS61 and even MS62 holders. It is very lightly worn with some friction on the high spots as well as typical weakness of strike at the central reverse. The surfaces are extremely clean and choice with just a few ticks seen in the lower left obverse field.

The last PCGS AU58 example with CAC approval to sell at auction realized $3,672 as Heritage 9/13: 5156. Another PCGS AU58 with CAC approval realized $3,525 as Heritage 3/13: 4336.

A very pleasing example of the first Indian Head eagle from the San Francisco mint.

CAC has approved 14 in this grade with 27 finer.
