NICE UNCIRCULATED 1891-CC EAGLE

The 1891-CC is, by a large margin, the most common Carson City eagle both in terms of overall and high grade rarity. It is available in MS60 to MS61 but it becomes hard to locate in MS62 to MS63 grades, especially with natural color and surfaces.

This fresh-to-the-market example was sourced from Europe. I was offered this coin along with a similarly toned PCGS MS63 and, honestly, I though the MS62 was nicer than its counterpart. This piece is frosty and nicely toned in natural golden-orange hues with some rose overtone on the reverse. Some scuffs in the left obverse field limit the grade but the quality is outstanding for the assigned grade.

Seven different MS62 examples of this date were sold at auction (none in PCGS/CAC) with the prices ranging from a low of $2,585 to a high of $3,055.

A nice, affordable but high end Carson City eagle which is perfect for the type collector.

CAC has approved 51 in this grade with 25 finer.
