The 1890-CC is the second most difficult of the four Carson City eagles from the 1890′s, trailing only the rare 1893-CC. There are a decent number known in Uncirculated but most of these grade MS60 to MS61. The 1890-CC is quite scarce in properly graded MS62 and rare above this.

This example is very pleasing for the date and grade with vibrant, frosty luster that show a touch of sunflower-gold and rose coloration. There are fewer marks than one might expect for the grade and the strike is excellent. The overall eye appeal is really exceptional.

In the recent Heritage Dallas ANA auction (10/12), a PCGS MS62 example of the 1890-CC eagle with CAC approval sold for $7,050.

CAC has approved seven examples in MS62 with just two finer.
