Only four Carson City eagles were made during the 1890′s. The 1891-CC is extremely common and the 1893-CC is a condition rarity. For most collectors, this leaves the 1890-CC and 1892-CC as the two most desirable issues. I find the 1890-CC to be a tough coin in properly graded MS62 and a rare one in MS63 and above.

This fresh, frosty example is notable for its full cartwheel luster and lovely rose, orange-gold and greenish hues. There are just a few too many small marks in the obverse fields to grade this piece higher but it has nice eye appeal for the date and grade with sharply defined centers.

The last three APR’s for PCGS MS62 examples of this date range from a low of $6,463 to a high of $7,638. None of these were approved by CAC.

In MS63, a properly graded PCGS 1890-CC will cost you in the area of $12,500-15,000, if you can find one. For most collectors, this pleasing MS62 will be a perfect fit in their date or type set.
