RARE 1873-CC HALF EAGLE

This is the second rarest Carson City half eagle, trailing only the 1870-CC. The 1873-CC is still not fully appreciated for its true scarcity and it is estimated that as few as 70-80 exist from an original mintage of just 7,416.

This deep russet example is well-worn but free of problems and it shows good overall definition for the grade with full rims and excellent detail on the feathers.

The last slabbed VF20 1873-CC half eagle to sell at auction was an NGC coin that realized $2,990 all the way back in 2003. A PCGS VF25 sold for $5,060 in 2008.

This seems like exceptional value compared to the more famous 1870-CC half eagle and it is the nicest affordable 1873-CC half eagle that I have offered in some time.
