RARE CHOICE AU 1844 QUARTER EAGLE WITH CAC APPROVAL

The 1844 is the second rarest collectable Philadelphia quarter eagle struck prior to the Civil War, after the 1842. Of the 6,784 made there are only 70-80 known with most grading below AU50. This is a rare and undervalued date in the higher AU grades and I am aware of only four or five with claims to Uncirculated.

This is an uncommonly choice example for the date and grade with splashes of warm, rich orange-gold at various intervals on both sides. The high spots show limited wear while the fields are clean and there is ample luster. The overall eye appeal is excellent.

No PCGS AU55 with a CAC sticker has ever sold at auction.

This coin is not far removed from the tail end of the Condition Census and this issue is legitimately scarce in all grades yet this specific coin is still very reasonably priced.

CAC has approved 2 in this grade with 4 finer.
